Studio based project
courses are facing major changes generated from a wide range
of sources. Such factors as the Higher Education Bill 2003,
the move towards a unified e-learning strategy, DfES University
funding levels, expanding syllabi, the rise of CAAD, patterns
of study and work and the value of design in society will
all effect Architecture and Landscape courses. A conference
was held in Oxford in December 2003.
More than 60 delegates were in attendance at the conference,
drawn mainly from the UK but also coming from Sweden and Israel.
St Catherine’s College, designed by Danish architect
Arne Jacobsen, and the St Cross Building by Sir Leslie Martin,
both seminal buildings from the early 1960s, formed an ideal
setting for this gathering of architects and design teachers.
